ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

What Is a Boulevardier Negroni?

A Boulevardier Negroni is like the Negroni’s warm, whiskey-loving cousin. It swaps out gin for bourbon or rye whiskey, mixing it with Campari and sweet vermouth. The result? A rich, smooth cocktail with a perfect balance of bitter, sweet, and boozy. It’s cozy, sophisticated, and ideal for sipping when you want a classic with a twist!

History Of The Cocktail

The Boulevardier and the Negroni are like classy cousins in the cocktail world, both oozing style and sophistication but with their own personalities. Let’s start with the Negroni. Born in early 20th-century Florence, Italy, it’s said to have been created when Count Camillo Negroni wanted something stronger than the Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth, soda water). The bartender swapped soda for gin, and voilà—the Negroni was born. Its perfect balance of bitter, sweet, and herbal notes made it an instant classic.

Now enter the Boulevardier, a spin-off with a twist. This cocktail is credited to Erskine Gwynne, an American expat living in Paris in the 1920s. He published a magazine called Boulevardier (fancy name for “man about town”), and the drink became his signature. Instead of gin, the Boulevardier uses whiskey—bourbon or rye—bringing warmth, richness, and a slightly sweeter edge to the classic Negroni mix of Campari and sweet vermouth.

Both drinks share a common DNA, but where the Negroni is sharp and bracing, the Boulevardier is smooth and comforting—a true cold-weather companion. Whether you’re sipping one in a Parisian jazz bar or making it at home, both cocktails are timeless tributes to the art of mixing.
